As the weather grows drier, it often leads to parched skin due to the low levels of moisture in the air, which means your skin needs a lot more care to keep its radiant glow. Every skincare product, no matter how much the brand tries to be all natural, will use a chemical preservative at the very least. Creating your own DIY skincare allows you to tailor ingredients to your specific skin care needs, whether that be hydrating dry skin, brightening dull complexion, or combating signs of aging.

Remember to perform a patch test before applying any product to your skin to ensure compatibility and avoid any potential allergic reactions. This is especially necessary for people with sensitive or easily irritated skin.

With that being said, this DIY rosewater face serum will hydrate your skin, tighten your pores, clear acne, and help you unlock your inner radiance and bring it to its fullest potential.

Ingredients:
3.5 oz amber* dropper bottle
3 tbsp pure aloe vera gel
3 tbsp pure rosewater
1 – 2 drops vitamin E oil (optional)
1 funnel or syringe

*The dark color helps prevent the compounds from breaking down in the presence of sunlight, but a normal glass bottle can be used as well. If using normal glass, make sure to store the serum in a dark environment, like in a drawer or cabinet.

Ingredient Benefits:
Rosewater: Rosewater is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, due to its rich concentration of vitamin C and phenolics. It is also antibacterial, which helps the skin to fight off infections-causing bacteria. When used over long periods of time, it can even out skin tone, lighten dark spots, and reduce the appearance of scars. It is also used for its anti-aging properties. Rosewater is an astringent, meaning it tightens the skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Its hydrating properties leave the skin soft and supple.

Aloe Vera Gel: Aloe vera gel is used to improve skin integrity, and known for its anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, antiseptic, wound healing and skin protecting qualities. It also contains aloin and aloesin, compounds that have been shown to effectively work as a nontoxic skin lightening treatment. Studies have shown that it can help reduce the fragility of the skin while also increasing the flexibility and the amount of collagen in the skin. Aloe vera gel can also be used to treat conditions such as diabetes, bed sores, mouth ulcers, psoriasis, herpes, and burn wounds. However, if aloe vera gel is used on its own, it can dehydrate the skin, which is why it should be used with a moisturizing agent, in this case rose water. If using the gel on the hair, it can be used with oils like coconut, olive, castor, or jojoba.

Vitamin E Oil: Vitamin E oil has anti-inflammatory properties, which prevents acne formation by removing dirt clogged in the pores. Its hydrating properties moisturize and nourish the skin, which is especially helpful for people with dry skin, itchiness, eczema, or psoriasis. The oil can be used to prevent wrinkles, due to its high concentration of antioxidants, which improve blood circulation. It also tightens the skin and helps protect it from damage caused by solar UV radiation. This is optional but will help your skin absorb the serum faster.

Instructions:
Simply pour the rosewater into the bottle and add the aloe vera gel after, using the funnel or syringe as necessary. If using a funnel, remove it before adding the vitamin E oil.

Shake gently before using and store away from direct sunlight.
